Key differences between Meiosis I, Meiosis II & Mitosis

Meiosis I:

1. Reduces chromosome number : Separates homologous chromosomes, reducing the chromosome number by half.
2. Genetic recombination: Involves crossing over and independent assortment, increasing genetic diversity.

Mitosis:

1. Maintains chromosome number : Separates sister chromatids, resulting in genetically identical daughter cells.
2. No genetic recombination : No crossing over or independent assortment occurs.

Meiosis II:


1. Similar to Mitosis: Separates sister chromatids, ensuring each gamete receives a single copy of each chromosome.
2. No reduction in chromosome number: Just like mitosis, Meiosis II maintains the haploid state.

So, while Meiosis I is unique, Meiosis II shares similarities with Mitosis.
