Life Process - 1 [ Cell Division : Mitosis ]

🌱 What is Mitosis?

Mitosis is the process by which a single cell divides to form two identical daughter cells. This is how your body grows, repairs wounds, and replaces old cells.

🔄 Steps of Mitosis (in Simple Words):

  1. DNA Doubling

    • The cell first copies its DNA:
      2n → 4n (Double chromosomes)
  2. Prophase

    • Chromosomes become visible.
    • Nuclear membrane breaks down.
    • Spindle fibers start forming.
  3. Metaphase

    • Chromosomes line up in the center.
    • Spindle fibers attach to them.
  4. Anaphase

    • Each chromosome splits.
    • The two halves (sister chromatids) move to opposite ends.
  5. Telophase

    • New nuclear membranes form.
    • Chromosomes become thin and invisible again.
  6. Cytokinesis (Cell Splitting)

    • In animal cells, a notch forms in the middle and pinches off.
    • In plant cells, a cell plate forms in the center.
  7. Result:

    • 2 identical cells, each with same number of chromosomes as the original.
